With V day being just around the corner and all…
According to most of the newsletters in my inbox I’m supposed to have a craving for red lace. And although usually I’d have an aversion, it seems that as if by osmosis a craving has made its way into my veins. Albeit in black form. Whiiiiich I kinda always want to wear anyway so I guess maybe those emails don’t exactly have magical powers. And just like singles day – a recently created holidayĀ in China where singles everywhere are encouraged to buy themselves presents, google it – instead of waiting around for that special someone, I’m buying doing it myself. And you can too. It’s easy!
DIY Lace Insert Tank
For this easy tank I overlaid the lace over the top rather than sewing it underneath, mainly because it’s the easiest way to go about it. But if you want to sew it underneath go for it, they’re the same steps.
You Need
For the tank, I chose one in a sheer fabric (a light poly blend to be exact) that moves like silk but without the price tag.
1
Start by cutting the neckline of your top into whatever top you want. This step is optional and you can leave your neckline as is, but I wanted to make a noticeable insert for the lace so made a cut out.
2
Overlay your fabric on top of the neckline, making sure it covers from the strap on the one side to the other strap.
5
Trim carefully around the sewn seam to remove the excess lace, making sure to trim really neatly so you've got a professional finish.
If you’re feeling like this might be a bit too girly for you, a style like this looks perfect paired with some tougher boyfriend jeans and heeled pumps. Happy V day guys!

I love your DIY projects, Geneva, they’re always so creative but often also easy! I’m definitely going to try this one during my winter break in a few days, because I love lace tops but I find it hard to get a quality one with a decent price tag. I also love the idea of choosing my own piece of lace, because I’ll be able to get something nicer and sew it to a very basic top.

I’ve been trying to find the perfect lace insert cami/tank like this, but to no avail! Thank you for this DIY. I think I’ll have to sew my own ideal lace top!
