Hands up if you felt like 2016 only started today, the first Monday of the new year? Call me lazy or whatever but I spent the last few days squeezingĀ the last drops out of theĀ festive season. But with Monday comes responsibilities, in the form of finalising a resolution/success plan for 2016 that’s been bouncing around in my head the last couple of months (big updates coming your way), andddd getting started on some new travel plans for the year. I’m actually pretty excited to get back into it, the last couple of weeks of downtime have been great at helping me building some creative ideas. 2016 I’m gonna make you my biaaattccccch, and I hope you’re ok with that.
That said, all this inspiration/planning/organisation can be a little daunting, and, I admit, kinda makes me want to get into bed with a good book. Chances are you’reĀ feeling the same – particularly if you’re back at workĀ after a few weeks off. Ā In the event that you’re feeling like procrastinating a little, the trick I find is to start small. One step at a time as they say. Start by hiding underĀ refreshing your workspace, giving it a good tidy and adding a few inspirational touches like these DIY cement desk organisers or a new notebook. See also: inbox & computer – if you can stomach it. This will have you well on your way to a great year. After you do that, you totally deserve to go lie down. š
How To Make AĀ DIY Cement Desk Organiser
You need:
- Quick dry cement & water
- Two sets of plastic molds – two shallow ones that fit inside each other for the flat dish, and two cylindrical ones for the planter/pencil holder. I used tupperware and plastic chinese food containers.
- Oil
How to
- Mix the cement as outlined on the packet.
- Oils the inside of the two bigger molds and the outside of the two smaller molds.
- Pour the cement it into the bigger containers. Only half fill them.
- Wait a few moments and then press in the second smaller containers. You’ll need to make sure it’s been pressed Ā to the right depth so that you can see that the resulting cement container is deep enough, and also has a thick enough base.
- Let dry overnight, and then remove the molds. You may have to cut them off if the cement has stuck.
By the way, you may want to download the desktop organiser Belinda and I created a while ago, it’s kinda of a great time to start using it.Ā And if you’re keen on refreshing your resolutionsĀ and plans, stay tuned in the next few days forĀ a few of our strategies.
Here’s to an amazingly productive 2016, aannnd lots of time spent in bed with a good book ;).

What a fun idea! I’ve never worked with cement before – so I have a few questions…
Where did you get the molds and/or what did you use for them? Do they sell molds like this alongside cement? Or did you have items that happened to fit together well that you were able to use?
Was there a lot of leftover cement mix? Does that stuff keep, or is it more like once you open the bag, whatever you don’t use is waste material? Do they sell small craft bags of cement?
See – I’m a cement noob š
Wow I love how the desk set looks, very industrial!

Ha! This is exactly how I’ve been feeling. I have found that working in my pajamas from home the past two days have made this transition a bit easier. I love the cement DIY, and am all about all things raw and unrefined right now!… now to stop procrastinating!
Hahahaha good luck š
This is a bit complicated for me (though mainly due to the materials being things I don’t already have at home), but I’m sure loving the way they turned out! š And yes, haha, the new year never feels real until it’s Monday š Loving your space so much! <3
