I must admit that I only recently stumbled upon the Missoni S/S12 collection, even though it was shown a few months ago now. Fashion month is such a blur of collections and details that sometimes some of the best collections for DIY inspiration slip by me. Whilst doing a bit of webslacking last night I was completely blown away by the attention to detail in this collection – the iconic Missoni fabrics intermixed with fringed necklaces, tiered skirts, coloured flowers, tassels, painted seashell necklaces, bright gold chain, shoes with coloured clear heels (I die!) and bags with coloured fans attached. For me this collection brings to mind salsa dancers and mexico – and does it get any more fun than that? Some parts of the show were a little too much in my books but overall is scores a zillion points in the DIY inspiration stakes. You can look forward to seeing some projects inspired by this collection.
For all of you deep into winter, apologies for all the summer inspiration that I have been posting. But there’s no reason why accessories and projects like the ones above can’t be integrated in your winter wardrobe. In fact my favourite outfit at the moment is a soft grey marl sweatshirt, neon necklace, skinny khaki jeans and black ankle boots. The best of both worlds right?
You could buy it. Or you could make it. The choice is yours.
1| Bell Embellished Shoulder Bag. Buy it or Make it – Take a small black shoulder bag with a thick strap (or add a wide rectangle of leather over the shoulder section of the strap if you need more width) and embellish with gold bells.
2| Chain Necklace. Buy It or Make it -Take two lengths of chain. Drape them around your neck and connect at the front at bust height using ribbon or thread.
3| Gold Metallic Dress. Buy It or Make it – Spray paint a mini dress with gold spray paint. Look for a brand of paint that is non toxic when dry like Krylon.
4| Feather Embellished Heels. Buy it or Make it – embellish a pair of strappy heels with colored straight feathers.
5| Fringed Platform Pumps. Buy It or Make it – Add some suede fringing to the back of some suede pumps.
6| Gold Branch Necklace. Buy It or Make it – find some soft twigs and glue together to make a collar necklace. Spraypaint with gold. Sort of like the project I did here.
My addiction to Net-a-porter is pretty obvious isn’t it?
Fashion weeks sooo remind me of that movie Night At The Roxbury where Doug and Steve think that it would be better to have the outside of the nightclub on the inside and the inside on the outside. In the case of fashion week clearly what goes on outside the shows is just as important as what goes on inside on the catwalk. Very happy to see that there was DIY inspiration aplenty at the recent Paris Fashion Week!
Wrap your beanie with mesh lace for a Jil Sander inspired winter look.
Deconstruct a few shirts – sew the front of a khaki shirt onto the sides of a pattered shirt.
Cut rectangles out of a mini white dress
Swap the handle of your bag for some knotted neon climbing rope and linked up carabiners.
