These Are The Plants You Should Have In Your Bedroom

Plants Jun 5, 2019

If you’re like us, the bedroom is your happy place – a little slice of heaven when you go to recharge your batteries. It goes without saying that this space should include plants, the more the better!

Not only do plants looks great and give your eyes some green relief, they actually have a whole host of other properties that can make your bedroom a healthier and happier space to be. To start with, you might be surprised at the number of toxic chemicals in your bedroom, which certainly don’t make for a good nights sleep, or a healthy life! The good news is, some plants have special properties that  improve the air, whilst others have properties that make you sleep better and relax more. In another of our plant series, we wanted to share with you our favourite plants for the bedroom!

BEST PLANTS FOR THE BEDROOM

ALOE VERA

Aloe Vera releases oxygen at night and helps to fight the harmful toxins that float in the air, removing particles of formaldehyde, ammonia, xylene, and toluene and helping improve the quality of the air whilst you sleep.

ARECA PALM

Areca Palm is one of the most efficient plants at purifying the air. It is also an effective natural air humidifier which can help with allergies, colds, or other breathing discomforts that can disrupt sleep.

BOSTON FERN

Boston fern is a reliable air-pollution combatant, specifically against the toxin formaldehyde – this helps to improve the quality of the air as you sleep so that you aren’t prone to any sicknesses caused by air pollution.  It improves humidity by helping to restore moisture to the air naturally too.

ENGLISH IVY

English Ivy has shown properties that help fight against mould floating in the air. Studies have also found that this leaf can remove 78 per cent of airborne mould in just 12 hours, this in turn improves symptoms of allergies or asthma and the quantity and quality of sleep.

GARDENIA

Gardena is a great sleep-inducer, helps you achieve a better quality of sleep, with claims that it may be as effective as Valium in relieving anxiety and promoting sleep.

JASMINE

Jasmine has a gentle, soothing effect on the body and mind. It gives off a sweet scent that is often used in its essential oil form for relaxation. Studies show that this scent is linked to reduced anxiety levels and also that it improves sleep quality.

LAVENDER

Lavender is the most well-known of all plants when it comes to inducing sleep and reducing anxiety levels. Research backs up these claims, with lavender scents shown to slow down heart rate, lower blood pressure and levels of stress.

ORCHIDS

Orchids help improve sleep and promote relaxation. Traditionally they have been used in dried form to help boost the immune system, fight off infection and fight fatigue.

PEACE LILY

Peace Lily not only help you to sleep, but they also filter out toxic substances like benzene, ethyl chloride, and formaldehyde toxins. The moisture given off by these flowers can boost a room’s humidity by up to 5%. This suppresses airborne microbes which can lead to allergies, and also helps relieve those irritating dry noses and throats that keep you awake all night.

POTHOS

This plant is great for the bedroom because it gives out plenty of oxygen at night, and it also specialises in purifying the air from harmful toxins, specifically carbon monoxide and formaldehyde, which improves the quality of the air to help you get a better sleep at night.

SPIDER PLANT

Spider plant is known for its ability to cleanse the air. It produces oxygen whilst purifying the air in your bedroom by absorbing carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and xylene. It also absorbs odors and fumes as well as sustaining oxygen levels in the room, promoting better sleep.

SNAKE PLANT

This plant helps to remove toxins from the air, specifically formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, toluene, and benzene. Another key benefit of the Snake Plant is that it transforms carbon dioxide into oxygen at night.
