Hong Kong Guide: Lantau Organic Farm Tour

Travel Guides Jun 20, 2018

By: Geneva

Hey guys! I’m excited to be sharing with you another post in my series, all about getting outdoors in Hong Kong.

You’ll be no stranger to my love of Hong Kong’s amazing green spaces and great outdoors, it’s for that reason that Hong Kong to me is the ideal place to visit. A few months ago Hong Kong Tourism asked me to be part of a new tourism campaign – all about sharing Hong Kong’s lesser-known outdoor treasures with a range of new green tours, as part of their new Great Outdoors campaign. The new campaign offers five incredible outdoor tours, each run by qualified eco-tour guides.

A little while ago I shared our first tour which was all about hiking Hong Kong’s traditional villages, and then another one – an amazing boat trip around the gorgeous sea coves in Hong Kong’s north. Today, I bring you the last in the series, an incredible tour around the lesser known corners of Lantau Island, and a visit to a very sweet organic farm.

Lantau Island Farm Tour

Lantau Island is a huge beautiful green space that is so diverse, it’s impossible to cover it in one guide. You’ll remember we shared some of the more well known aspects of the Island in a recent post, but today we wanted to share with you a hidden gem. Yi-O, located in the South West of the Island, a hop skip and a jump from the traditonal fishing village of Tai O. We were taken on a fantastic tour of the area, complete with deserted villages and a stunning organic farm.

You start the day by meeting the lovely guide at Tai O, and taking a picturesque boat tour around the coastline, between islands and past tiny cove beaches. Back on the island, you walk for 20 minutes to Yi O, where you’re met by a bunch of very sweet dogs and lovely farmers. Surrounded on all sides by green mountains, you couldn’t feel further away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong!

You spend a few hours being introduced to the practices of this organic farm, and then you get to explore a bit on your own. You’ll definitely wanted to go mulberry picking! Then, a lunch of organic chinese food made using the produce from the farm is just what the doctor ordered. You finish the day with another lovely short hike and a boat back to Tai O. What a dream! It’s a fantastic way to get to know a more hidden side of Hong Kong.

This post is in collaboration with Hong Kong Tourism Board.
