DIY ROSE PETAL CUPCAKES

Ding ding ding! That’s the bell for morning tea time in the studio. In celebration of Easter and finally having a first full week in my office space (everyone else has been here but I’ve been travelling, so perhaps it’s a bit selfish of me but hey – who doesn’t like cupcakes!?) Gemma and I decided to have a little floral inspired morning tea today. Complete with english breakfast, catch ups about projects and rose petals. What could be better? Given that I *try* not to eat all that much sugar these days, it felt like big treat to decorate and then eat these yummy creations – if you can’t do it at Easter when can you do it?

When it comes to eating flowers, it’s really important that you get them from a clean source, so this means an organic nursery, your own garden (or someone else’s… muhahahaha). Flowers you buy in the markets will probably have been sprayed with pesticides which means that they’re definitely not for eating. If you’re not sure, you can always decorate with petals and then remove them once you’re eating them, as long as you wash them properly before doing this it should be fine.

When removing the petals from the flowers, make sure you don’t bring along any stem or stamen, they’re not so nice. I found the flowers that weren’t open yet had the nicest shaped petals once they were removed from the flower.

I used about 5 flowers to create loads of petals. Make sure you wash them, this is very important to remove dust or any other nasties. To do this, dunk them in water a few times, and then soft rub with your finger tips in the water.

Once the petals have dried, you’re all good to go!

You can go for a random look by sprinkling them all over, or place a few in the centre like we did.

Voila! *drool*

You’ll probably have some flowers left over so put those in a vase (or jar) and add them to your table.

Things got pretty messy behind the scenes but I have to say this is one of the more exciting meetings I’ve ever been to…

The only difficulty was stopping ourselves having a second!

I hope you all have an amazing easter (if you celebrate it) and/or long weekend (if you get it), and get to indulge a little too.
