WARDROBE REHAB: THE UNIFORM
5th November 2012
If I had to choose a few items for my closet as my absolute essentials, the ones below would be them - a uniform that’s perfect in summer as is or layered with tights and a coat in winter. Remember how easy it used to be at school when you knew exactly what you would be wearing day in and day out? Kind of boring I know (and my uniform was the least flattering thing in the world – we spent the whole time trying to make it chic) but it did make life pretty easy. Sometimes I find it really it helps to have an outfit of favourite basic pieces (as well as a few variations of that outfit) that you feel comfortable in and can throw on when you need to run out the door without having to umm and ahhh over your outfit choices. Naturally this outfit doesn’t work in every situation but it hopefully comes pretty close. Funnily enough the concept of the uniform is something I got from my boyfriend, when we were first together I noticed that he wears variations of the same thing everyday, so I thought I would try out a similar approach. It’s become second nature now, I could probably throw out most of the rest of my closet!
My uniform: Vintage leather skirt (this is a similar one), vintage breton top (want one of these!), Zara ballet flats (these are cute too), gold pendant bought in Paris, Coach watch.
My other favourite picks for a uniform are a simple white silk shirt and a pair of denim shorts or boyfriend jeans.
If you had to describe your own ‘uniform’ (the clothes that feel like a second skin when you wear them) what would it be? I’d love to hear!

love ur skirt<3
i agree with your selection!
cute dress + comfy cardigan + ankle boots = what I like to wear day in and day out.

I don’t have an uniform, but my boyfriend does, he doesn’t like thinking about what to wear everyday, so he decided to wear always the same: a white t-shirt, black jeans and sneakers, and during the cold season he adds to his look a gray sweater and a black jacket.

Nice!
lovely choices; i definately agree with having a basic uniform that you can wear come wear or shine; summer or winter!
for me it has to be simple tee, black cardigan, skinny/straight leg jeans and my good ol’ converses. these never let me down x
I feel best in a great fitting pair of jeans, tee tucked in and a blazer with simple leather flats. Uniforms are near and dear to me, simplicity for the win!
Time Stand Still
Wow I love this selection. I adore gold watches!

Shirt + oversized sweater + skiny jeans + funny socks + brogues or vans
If you have the time, check out my blog, I would be so honored to read your opinion about it !
Love the leather skirt.
I don’t actually have a uniformic lokk, but if I did, it’d probably be a black long sleeve, black tapered trousers, and black wedges. Easy enough to dress up or down.
Great post!

Love that outfit! Slim jeans, slouchy linen or wool top and brogues with chunky rings. My go-to. Yours are a little smarter, which I like. I’ve been wanting a leather skirt for a while now.
Gorgeous x

Right now because it’s been so cold (though that’s never really stopped me if it’s not): A sweater with a dress shirt underneath or a cardigan on top, my favourite jeans and my loafers. So comfy!
“I could probably throw out most of the rest of my closet!”
OMG–Bite your tongue! How can you say this and call yourself a fashionista??!!

Yesss… my winter uniform is tight “pants-looking leggings” (you know those awesome ones from zara) and a striped loose sweater, with black leather knee high boots.
Oh this post is the cherry post…. My very close family member rang my mum sayin… Oh she wears same thing all the time…. Something wrong with her. And yeah, its denim jeans, big ones from men’s department whatever sneakers and silky long sleeve tops, ups mostly my husbands acne, too big again…. The best ever, in summer roll sleeves up and jeans…. In winter jacket on top, go
really would like to invest on a leather skirt too!

Either skinnies, sweater and metal tipped ankle boots or dress, tights and oversized jacket. And always a slick of vampy lippie for winter. I can never get with the uniform everyday thing because I love to style my clothes! But I do have my fail-safes.
Second hand, self altered dresses from op shops, sandals, and scarves on my head.
Aww I really want a straight leather skirt! I saw them all summer and now I regret not buying one!
I agree, I got so excited when I first didn’t have to wear a uniform every weekday but now it’s become such a hard task every morning.
Loving the outfit though.
the making of things
perfect outfit!!! but i could never imagine to live with an uniform, even in school. i went to fashion school in vienna and our director once tried to launch uniform, but i managed to avert it!

P.s.:Your blog is fantastic!
Every girl should have the perfect pair of black flats because it looks good anything! the sample you have in your post is the classic ballet black flats with a ribbon – pretty at its simplest form
Great idea! It definitely will come extremely useful especially in times of college.

I believe the a wardrobe should be built of uniforms that can be mixed and matched. If I had to choose on outfit that is like second skin to me, it’s a pair of lucky jeans and an oversized sweater from Anthropologie.
Found a vintage leather skirt on a sale rack – at a consignment store – for eight dollars a couple of years ago and wore it like a uniform. Mine started to look scuffed, but black shoe polish and leather conditioner gave it an instant makeover. I wore mine a lot – with a close-fitting crew sweater (oatmeal neutral), over a variety of menswear type shirts (a faded denim one was the favorite), black opaque tights – although sometimes for shock appeal… a saffron gold pair – and boot-like frye shoes with a chunky heel.
Too bad I’m needing to find one in a bigger size this winter (sound of I Love Lucy crying here).
I love my thermal shirt, and my leggings!
I love your idea of a uniform! For me it’d probably be something like a high-waisted skirt, blouse and some oxfords. I have a habit of wearing the same watch and earrings everyday, too
Woooaa, lovely to know that you love breton shirt. My uniform is a breton shirt too. It’s a timeless style. Combined With boyfriend jeans and flat shoes. Perfect!
beige skinnies and a semi-sheer white blouse.

high waisted, tapered black trousers, a navy blue sweater, brogues, and a tiny gold necklace. in summer a black dress instead.
Comfy tee with stonewashed jeans and sorry…no flats or me. It’s heels or barefoot!
My uniform would be the same except for the skirt. I would change that in a dark jeans. I’m more like a pants girl.
Sequins in a bubble
my uniform is either (striped tees + rolled up khaki chinos + belts + loafers) or (shirts + some bracelets + jeans + flats) always with a satchel bag and sometimes a watch. True, our uniform is an easy formula which rarely goes wrong.
i might actually post about this in my own blog. thanks for the inspiration!
black combat boots, tights, black and white polka dot skater dress, distressed denim shirt, studded cuff, a zillion rings, ring pendant necklace
Combat boots, oversized sweater, oversized cardigan, printed leggings
pretty much the same with yours
except I am a sucker for greys:
Uniform:
1. stripes
2. grey tees, tanks and sweaters
3. black skirts and jeans
4. LBD – Little blue dress, not black
Extras:
1. polka dots
2. tan flats, sandals and bag
Other additional colours/prints:
1. dusty pinks, rust
2. bohemian prints/floral dresses
3. leopard prints
Denim skinnies (two pair i wear over and over), neutral or striped tshirt, and cute but comfy shoes (lately has been my navy blue converse or black combat boots).
