DIY TRANSPARENT CLUTCH BAG
6th July 2012
Recently I’ve been obsessing over anything transparent, with clear bags being at the top of my list. I saw this pic over at pinterest a little while ago and knew I should try to make my over version. Turns out it wasn’t so hard!
You need:
- A big rectangle of clear PVC. Mine was around 3mm thick
- 5 round top studs with screws
- A pen
- Scissors
- Multi hole punch
- A ruler
- An A1 piece of white paper or cardboard
How to
1. Draw the template onto your paper – following the measurements you see below. Click here for a bigger version. Note that the image itself is indicative and not to scale. The measurements are approximate because I think you can make it a little bigger or smaller or give it a different shape if you want, it’s just about trimming it to suit you, but this template will give you the general structure.
2. Cut your template out and then use some tape to stick it on your pvc.
3. Cut your pvc, using the template as a guide.
4. Remove the template from the pvc.
5. Fold the corners over like an envelope, folding the sides in first, then the bottom, and then lastly the top flap.
6. Decide where you want to put your stud beads to secure the envelope shape. I have put little coloured circles on the template to give you an idea of where the holes should go for the studs. Use the hole puncher to make holes relative to the size of the screw in the stud bead.
7. Push the screw through from the underneath and then screw the top on.
8. For the lower holes, make the top hole first and then mark with a pen the inside hole. Open up the bag to make the inside hole.
9. Once all the holes are done – close the bag to work out where to put the stud that will act as a latch.
10. Mark with a pen and then use the hole punch to put a hole in the underside of the opening. Thread the stud bead through the single underneath layer, and then put another hole in the flap to be used to secure the opening by pushing the hole over the stud.
Voila! Put a glitter or leopard print purse inside to hold all your bits and pieces.

This is ridiculously cool… you constantly outdo yourself.
By the way, I linked you from my blog: http://www.katiapellicciotta.blogspot.com

That is amazing! Definitely adding this to my to-do list! I think it would be great if you add metal corners to the bottom to make it a little more sturdy and so that small things won’t fall out. Just a suggestion!

I made my template and the lower flap is – 25 cm to get the correct angle i went in by 5.7cm and then traced the line..anyways I did the same at the top but the lenght is 27 cm — IM SO CONFUSED!!!
I hope this makes sense and if someone could kindly reply i’d be REAL GRATEFUL!!

Where can you buy the clear PVC in Hong Kong? I want to try this project out!
Hi,
I really really love your clutch idea. Since I would like to replicate it at home, I have a question… Where did you get a chance to buy piece of PVC? I live in a mini European country (check if you have time – Slovenia), and I am putting so much effort in trying to find a proper PVC. No luck so far :s Please, help.
Thank you.
P.S. I love your blog. You are the only one I’ve been checking regularly.
hey there, im just wondering what stud you use to open the clutch? or do you have to un screw it every time to open it?
I looked all over town for PVC, I live in California, I ended up buying really thick clear vinyl form Joann Fabrics. It worked really well for me! Just wanted to let everyone know since it seems we are all having trouble finding the proper materials.

So every time you need to open the clutch, you have to unscrew the middle stud? Is there another way?
