DIY [MIU MIU INSPIRED] LOUBOUTIN GLITTER PUMPS
23rd August 2011
I have an insane addiction to shiny things. I went through a phase where I only bought shoes if they were black and patent. Now it’s glitter encrusted shoes that I can’t get enough of. It started with the Giuseppe Zanotti glitter finished boots. Now the Miu Miu Glitter heels have taken the spotlight and promise to be the it-shoe of the season. Unfortunately I would need to leverage myself a bit too much for my comfort to be able to afford these babies, so I recently went about recreating the look.
You’ll need:
Heels
Gold glitter
Acrylic glue
Sandpaper
A paint brush
How to:
1. Clean the shoes, and then lightly sand them to rough up the surface so the glue sticks properly.
2. Mix the glue and glitter together in a container.
3. Paint the shoe with the glitter glue.
4. Sprinkle with extra glitter to fully coat the shoes. Don’t worry about getting glitter inside the shoes, just clean them up once the glue has dried.
Voila! Best worn with skinny trousers rolled at the hem. I think in retrospect these heels look more like these Givenchy ones or the glittery Christian Louboutin pumps worn by Carrie in the SATC movie – but my original inspiration was the Miu Miu ones.

omg i love this gonna try this in different types of shoes

Perfect idea dear, they came out fantastic!
xoxoxo
Wow thanks so much for your lovely comments guys! As you can see this was a very easy DIY and really helped me get amongst the trend without breaking the budget. Am so glad to see that some of you are going to give it a go. I didn’t mention this in the post but try to buy quite coarse glitter which I think gives a better sparkle.
@Angela – I bought these at a road side stall in Fortress Hill – between Kings and Electric road. Very small place so was lucky to find them.
@Lindsay – I used all the glitter you can see in the above pictures. More is definitely more when it comes to glitter.
just perfect <3
These would go great with the Miu Miu inspired glitter sunglasses I just made.

Just made these the other day. I love them! I’m having a lot of glitter fall off of mine, though, so I might need to do a setting spray or something.

That’s FAB. I’m not a glitter girl, but hey, I can think of other things to do with some of my shoe collection.
GENIUS. I totally think they look like the ones that Carrie wears (which is not a bad thing AT ALL!)

at first i was gonna say omg you diyed a pair of LOUBOUTINS! but i knew you wouldn’t do that, geneva, and I was right.
Tbh, I MUCH prefer your delicate, sexy little stilettos to those great big clunky miu mius. The pointy stiletto is looking much fresher for fall, I think. I picked up a vintage pair of pointy stiletto ankle boots in a thrift store and wore them to work and everyone went ‘oooooh!’, so it just goes to show.
Sent here from Glitter Guide .. dieing to know how the shoes have been holding up. Glitter still intact?
so gorgeous! love love love!
I find yours better than Miu Miu’s one
.
WOW! What a wonderful lease of life!I love your DIY’s, might just have to try this! xx
first of all, you are very creative.
second of all, it looks amazing.
third of all, love your blog!

how about glittering a cardian? that would be super fun!
I tired this DIY today and it worked out really well! Kind of becoming obsessed with glitter as a result and will try this on some flats next:).
Thanks for the great idea!
Hey! I tried these DIY shoes with kinda purple/lila glitter and it turned out pretty well I’d say. The thing I’m worried about is if a lot of the glitter won’t fall out as I wear them? Are yours holding on?
Anyways thanks for the DIY!
Claudia
Just amazing! I tried these out and spraypainted them first and then put this swell glitter spray on. they’re so pretty – thanks for the inspiration x x
That’s great! i am also obsessed with the Miu Miu glitter. I am going to try this DIY on an old pair of stilettos. Thanks for the idea!!!
Best regards,
Marion

wanna try this..but how much glitter do I need?
Hi! So I recently did this but I used glitter that I already had for the first shoe and then I realized that I needed more glitter! So, I bought some and did the whole other shoe to only realize that I used the wrong glitter! Do you think there is anyway to fix the second shoe since the first one is gorgeous??? Thanks!!!
My very first inspiration for a DIY blog came from your DIY glitter shoes that was featured in glitterguide.
I would like to share my version of it and yes, totally inspired by you
http://thesparkladeavenue.blogspot.com/2012/02/do-it-before-you-throw.html
hi there! Do the shoes have to be patent in order for this method to work? or could this work on suede or plain leather heels?
xx
Works better on leather heels actually. On patent, the glitter tends to crackle and fall.
WONDERFUL Post.thanks for share.
nice post, i certainly love http://apair-andaspare.blogspot.com, keep on it !!!!!
